Our very busy and successful spring term ended with an amazing morning at The Royal Hospital School taking part in the IPSSA Cross Country event. Our year 4 runners took part in a 1500m race and for our year 5/6 runners, it was 2200m. This event is an amazing opportunity for the children to test their resilience, try something new and prove to themselves what they are capable of. It is made all the lot better getting to see all of the 46 children who attended; support, cheer and celebrate their own as well as each other's achievements. While we had several children beat their personal best from last year, we also had our fair share finish around the top 20 out of 150+children in each race. The achievements don't stop there. Our year 4 girls really set the tone when Primrose (1st), Aggie(3rd) and Violet(5th) blew us all away as they came storming down the final straight towards the finish line. Having had the results back this week we have now learnt that their team (Primrose, Aggie, Violet and Gracie) came in 1st place out of 36 teams in the year 4 girl's race! This is the first time at Rendlesham Primary School we have had a team win their event at cross country. The whole school is so proud, well done girls - your trophy will be on its way soon! We also had some more superb individual results from three children who have had an incredible cross country journey at Rendlesham Primary School. In their final cross country event of year 6: Joshua finished in 6th place out of 180 running in one of the toughest races of the day. Layla-Rose came emerging from the fields in the distance and kept up her incredible pace to earn herself 2nd place and a silver medal. Elodie then followed shortly after and put on a finishing masterclass to secure herself 10th place in the same race which again, had 180 runners in. Our superstar year 6 runners, supported by the rest of their team, also had some brilliant team results. Josh, Daniel, Robin and Oliver combined to come in 4th place out of 46 teams and Layla-Rose, Elodie, Ellie and Lalia also combined to finish in 3rd place out of 42 teams. This was by far our most successful event from a team results perspective, and we are very proud of everyone who took part. Cross country runners, you are AMAZING!

In the second half of the spring term, a group of Year 6 children took a visit to Crown Pools in Ipswich to take part in a swimming gala against schools from all over Suffolk. Our team were outstanding and came 5th, narrowly missing out on a top 3 finish, out of 13 schools. A special mention for: Joshua and Layla-Rose for coming 1st in their 25m freestyle races, Elodie for coming 2nd in the 25m backstroke, Grace for coming 3rd in the 25m breaststroke and Olivia for coming 3rd in the 25m freestyle. The girls also did incredibly well, earning two second place finishes in both the 4x 25m freestyle and medley relay. To start off the final week of the spring term, a team of year 5 and 6 girls took part in the U11s Futsal event. The girls took part in 4 games across the afternoon and showed incredible teamwork. They lead from the back with Elsie and Avelia while Lalia and Aubrey showed great desire to put the other team under pressure. Goals then came from Elodie, Matilda and Ellie (who scored 5)! This teamwork meant the girls bounced back after losing the first two games but won their third and drew their last. Great work girls!

We're so proud of our Rendlesham School Choir! We're delighted to announce that our choir has been selected to perform at Celebration, a vibrant annual music festival held at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, on Monday 13th July. Part 2 The 3 and 4 children spent the first half term learning and practising basketball skills in P.E before also attending a basketball event. The U9s Basketball Festival gave the children the opportunity to practise their skills in activities lead by year 12 students. Afterwards, they got to play some mini matches against the other schools. The children showed off their skills excellently and displayed great competitive spirit in their matches, winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 1. The second half of the Spring term started with Mr Gooding taking some of his girl's football club attendees to an U8s Girl's Football Festival. Some of these children also then attended an U10s version the following week. The girls showed great progression throughout these events. Their hard work scoring goals, blocking shots and tackling the other team was rewarded as not only did they win some games, they were also lucky enough to meet some of the Ipswich Town Women's players!

Last term was another one full of sporting events and achievements, from Sportshall Athletics back in January to Cross Country in the last week of term. Children from year 2 - 6 have taken part in a variety of different events. In February a team of year 5 and 6 children attended a basketball tournament and for most, it was their first time playing basketball in a competitive event. The format allows the boys in the team to play the first half and the girls then play the second with the points accumulating throughout. After showing great teamwork and resilience across the 5 matches, we finally put together two excellent halves topped off by a superb winning shot from Harrison. This shot as well as points from Jemima, Josh and Daniel lead the team to an 8-6 victory.

The whole school had a fantastic day on Wednesday to celebrate British Science Week. We welcomed Ivan, the scientist, to our school to demonstrate various exciting science experiments. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and talking excitedly about the science.
